I'm pleased to announce the annual Congressional Art Competition is currently underway. Each year, the House of Representatives decorates the United States Capitol building with artwork from the Congressional Art Competition. Begun in 1982, the competition provides an opportunity for Members of Congress to encourage and recognize the artistic talents of their young constituents. The winning artwork from each district will be displayed in the Capitol until May 2013.
This year my office will choose 7 finalists. The grand prize artwork from the Texas' 23rd Congressional District will be displayed in our Nation's Capitol for one year and the winning artist will be awarded two complimentary airline tickets to visit Washington D.C. this summer during the unveiling of their artwork in the Capitol.
All submitted art must be original and meet the guidelines implemented by the Congressional Art Competition. The guidelines as well as the student information/release form may be found on my website (–Click), and participating artwork must be postmarked by April 20th, 2012.
For more information about the competition and the full list of rules (–Click). Thank you and I look forward to seeing what our talented young student-artists are able to create this year.
